I've added a new Data section to this site. It's separate from the blog and houses research datasets, digital collections, and tools that are either complete or in development.
What's There Now
Eight projects total:
Two are live and usable:
- Scottish Books Printed in the 18th Century - 360 books from Scotland, searchable and filterable
- Guide to Scottish Enlightenment Periodicals - Direct links and research notes for the Monthly Review, Edinburgh Review, and Critical Review
Six are detailed placeholders describing work in progress:
- Database of Edinburgh Philosophical Society presentations (1737-1783)
- William Cullen's medical students database (3,000+ records)
- Reconstruction of Cullen's medical library (~3,000 volumes)
- Enhanced version of the Cullen Project (correspondence and manuscripts)
- Complete published works at williamcullen.org
- Critical edition of Cullen's First Lines of the Practice of Physic
Much Work Behind the Scenes
- The Cullen students database has 3,000+ records compiled from Lisa Rosner's research and Edinburgh archives
- The library catalogue transcription is complete (1792 sale catalogue)
- Digitization of Cullen's published works is underway
- The Philosophical Society database structure is designed and partly populated
Two Categories
The data section distinguishes between collections (curated reference materials like the Scottish periodicals guide) and projects (databases and applications like the students database).
The tag system lets you filter by topic: Scottish Enlightenment, William Cullen, eighteenth-century, medical history, digital humanities, etc.
What's Next
More items will move from "coming soon" to "live" in 2026. I'll add new collections as I compile them. The goal is to make these resources as useful to others as they are to my own research.
